We are now well into our second week here at Panajachel, Lago Attilan and are still trying to decide the way forward. We are in the process of rationalising all that has happened up to now, what we want to achieve from this trip and what we can actually afford to doI!

It has been a test for us as a couple and being honest it was a touch fraught at times. Fortunately we seemed to have weathered the small area of low pressure, trimmed our little bateau amour ready for a new and fairly dramatic change of course.

At this point I must dispel the impression I’m giving of doom and gloom. We have on the whole had a good time here at the lake, mostly just chilling, a couple of trips across the water to neighbouring lake side town’s that were both much more the real Maya deal. Its been nice to have our own little bolt hole, and the bumpy tuktuk ride home from the supermarcardo never fails to leave us with wide grins. We passed a brand new one for sale the other day, my suggestion of buying it (only £3k) to drive drive down to the southern cape was immediately and unequivocally shot down by her majesty 😥

We are heading back to the US, West coast this time, flying into LA then working our way up to San Francisco, Helpxing on the way. This decision came about through a combination of searching for the cheapest airfare to South America (bizarrely cheaper from back in California, including the fare back from Guatemala), the availability of good sounding HelpX hosts and both of us having agreed that we really would like to “do the west coast” to complete our US experience. We have booked flights for the 12th Dec and sorted out a couple of HelpX hosts to put us up. We have some places to see before we leave Central America, so we shall be hitting the road at the end of next week.

Our Christmas plans are yet to be sorted, most likely California (although we have a cunning plan B up our sleeve!) and then we intend to HelpX a bit, then hire a car to go explore, finally ending up on a San Francisco trolley car before flying out of the States at the end of Jan/beginning of Feb.

Todays post script……Thanks to United Airlines absolutely hopeless website, we were unable to book our bargain priced flight to South America (6 hours of my life wasted trying to get our details and payment accepted) so we have chosen a new destination. We shall now be going to………………………………………… be continued!!!!!!
