We’re off tomorrow. We’ve had a fascinating time in the States and really got a taste of different aspects of life here. The last few days in Atlanta have been very relaxing. Nearly all the Americans we’ve met have been friendly, welcoming and open but they also seem quite narrow-minded and lack a world view. Their concerns are about what affects them personally and as a nation; and they don’t seem to sympathise or empathise with other individuals or other nations. The country is, of course, huge and I hadn’t realised that this would mean miles and miles of the same landscape. There are some beautiful places but they are very far apart and the urban areas, with a few exceptions, are the same wherever you go. We were only here five weeks so I don’t want to try and sound like an expert. The highlight for me was our stay in Louisiana. Best food – Michael’s breakfasts. Best drink – strawberry lemonade in New Orleans. Most interesting individual -Larry.
More photos to follow when they’re uploaded.
We’re up at 4 tomorrow to get our flight to Guatemala (via Fort Lauderdale). The forecast is wet, wet, wet though the rainy season is supposed to be coming to an end. We’ll see!
