Some interesting facts about Louisiana

Louisiana is about half the size of Great Britain.

It has a population of 4.75 million. (The population of Britain is 60 million).

New Orleans has 1.25 million of these.

Lake Pontchartrain is 24 miles across. That’s like going across the English Channel.

12ft above sea level is considered to be ‘high ground’, enough to keep dry if there’s a flood (or hurricane).

It was named after King Louis XIV.

It has a subtropical climate – today it cooled down to 80F.

The U.S. bought Louisiana from the French for $15 million in 1803.
